SIM POY Award Details

In the ESLB there are 2 major awards an owner can achieve.  1 is obviously the World Series Championship and the other is the SIM POY Award Winner.

The SIM POY Award will be voted based on the the owner who exemplifies the "Complete Package."

Here are the characteristics of the Robar Award Winner:
1. SIM Player -- Who is playing a great SIM game and bases his game in a "realistic baseball fashion."
2. Sportsmanship -- Who wins graciously and loses graciously.  Yes we want competitiveness but those who display great sportsmanship on and off the field will be recognized
3. Scheduling Communication -- Who communicates effectively and schedules games in a respectful fashion.
4. Community Owner -- Who is there to help and contribute to the league in a number of different ways.

The Commissioners will pick the SIM POY Award Winner each Season.

However EVERYBODY has a voice in who wins.  At any point in time, you can state your opinion to myself on who should win.  There is enough WORD OF MOUTH out there to know who is tearing it up in all the right ways, and who is not.

***Now before you start reading this let me tell you one thing...many people have different thoughts and feelings on what SIM is.  While the General Definition and feeling is the same, some take it to extremes in which it actually becomes "Un-Sim."  Some on the other hand don't take it far enough.  Below is a general feeling on what this league believes.

What Is SIM?

SIM Play is REAL BASEBALL PLAY.  It is playing in a style that emulates a "Real Life MLB Baseball Game."

How Do I Know If I'm Playing Sim?

Try to look at 3 different and specific areas of your game:

1. Batting

2. Pitching

3. Field Play

Batting:  The obvious Un-Sim nature of batting is NOT having a good "Batter's Eye."  So SKILL and developing your eye is what SIM batting is all about.  DON"T SWING AT EVERY PITCH.  Work the count and make the pitcher work hard.  The other aspects are bunting and power swings.  Bunt in REALISTIC situations only, and don't use the power swing on every swing.  You must know who is at the plate and what his skill set is.

Pitching:  Dirtballs ARE ALLOWED, but only in situations that call for them.  Should a pitcher throw strikes even if the Batter is swinging at everything? No he shouldn't.  The batter's patience should determine what the pitcher needs to do.  Having said said though, the pitcher shouldn't be throwing wild out of the zone pitches on every pitch.  When throwing Balls, make sure you're close to the zone.  A waste pitch is necessary sometimes, but not all the time.  Keep pickoffs to a realistic amount.

Field Play:  Base Running aggressiveness tells a lot about your SIM play.  If you are too aggressive on the base paths it becomes very evident you aren't SIM.  Stealing is also a major factor.  Only steal with guys that should be stealing and only steal in stolen base situations.  You can also be over-aggressive when Fielding.  Make the SMART throw, not the aggressive throw, and the smart play instead of diving for every ball.
